Dear Parents of the Spectacular Missionaries in the Hungary/Romania Mission:
Below is a letter that we received from the Missionary Department early this morning. We are excited to remain in the field of service with your daughters and sons doing the most important work on the earth today, gathering scattered Israel. We sincerely appreciate you and your prayers of support, and love serving with your noble and consecrated children!
“To: Mission Presidents in the Europe and Europe East Areas
Dear Presidents and Sisters,
Thank you for the excellent service and wonderful care you are providing to your missionaries. These are days never to be forgotten, and your leadership and faith will create memories that the missionaries will cherish for the rest of their lives.
On March 20, the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve sent a priesthood notice to leaders regarding missionary service. In that notice they said, “In the coming weeks, based upon world conditions, substantial numbers of missionaries will likely need to be returned to their home nations to continue their service.” Decisions regarding which missions this would apply to were left to the Quorum of the Twelve for implementation.
These Brethren have determined that missionaries in your mission will remain in place for now. This decision is subject to change, based on future direction from the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. Forthcoming training will help your missionaries become more adept at finding and teaching through the use of technology.
Our purpose in writing is to bring certainty to the current situation and allow you to respond to inquiries from parents and priesthood leaders.
Please accept our gratitude for the service you are rendering to the Lord and His Church.
Sincerely yours,
Elder Brent H. Nielsen
Executive Director, Missionary Department”
