Sister Kellmer shared the following email with us about training Sister Francis:
Szia szia szia!
First of all, thank you, thank you, thank you for all the sweet emails and prayers in my behalf! I received so much good advice and encouragement about training! I promise to use all of the tips I received :)
I have absolutely no idea where to start because this past little while has been absolutely amazing!
It's funny to me because I have to admit that when President Hettinger called me and said I would be a trainer, I just about cried😂
I haven't had a senior companion since my own training and I thought I needed one to help me grow in the language, missionary work, etc. I was also super nervous because I thought I would be doing everything on my own AND, I really just want to be a good trainer!
Of course I was excited, too! And had I known what this first week of training would look like, I would've jumped for joy!
My new companion is Francis nővér from Kaysville, Utah! We clicked since day one and she is a literal angel😇
We both love a lot of the same things and one of them is our love of China! (I love, love, love China - it is my favorite place I have ever travelled to). So it's been super fun to talk about our experiences there. Francis nővér even told me that visiting China is one of the reasons she decided to serve a mission!
The things I love most about Francis nővér most is that she is so obedient and has pure love for EVERYONE.
Since day one, we have just been speaking Hungarian (outside of our apartment) and I haven't heard a single complaint from her! I'm especially proud of her because in all honesty, us sisters have gone lax and spoken English with each other on P days. Today though, Francis nővér didn't budge and even the oldest sister missionary in the mission decided to speak Hungarian because of it! Seriously, it doesn't matter how old you are or how long you have been a missionary, you can always make an impact on those around you!
Her Hungarian is very limited but whenever we go streeting, her simple testimony and radiant smile have melted so many hearts, it has been the biggest blessing! Like I said earlier, training scared me because I thought I would have to talk with every person on every street all by myself. However, I literally feel like we have been streeting with angels this week!
Fun Little Moments
*We went to the Advent Markets near Déák Ferenc Ter today and all of us asked "Hogy mondják 'magical'? (How do you say "magical")? Not even the word "enchanting" does it justice! The markets were cute and cozy and full of festive Christmas decorations! :) The best part though is that everything was simple. Lots of decorations are made out of pinecones, walnut shells, etc. Sooo cute! And it's official now. Christmas is better in Hungary ;)
*We were on an escalator and in her best Hungarian, my cute companion said "Kellmer nővér, you are just like Mary Poppins!" I asked her "Miért?" and she said "You're wearing a navy blue coat, holding a bag in one hand, and the other is pointed to the sky (on the escalator)." She is seriously the cutest!
*We were in a lesson with a lady I had never met before. I asked her about her previous experience with missionaries and she told me all about a Zöldi (greenie/new missionary) from years back. One of the stories she brought up was that she wanted to buy new shoes for him. I understood pretty much everything but then she used words I had never heard before so I asked her to explain. She used Google translate and it said "The sole of his shoe had been detached." Francis nővér looked at the each other and died! No wonder we were so confused - I mean, who even says that in English? 😂
*Lin, a friend of ours who is from Vietnam, came to church on Sunday and in Sunday school, someone gave an example of Satan tempting us with a nice, big chocolate cake. It was so cute because as soon as this example was translated, Lin practically jumped out of her seat and exclaimed "Chocolate!" We made sure to let her know that *of course* we eat chocolate and that she doesn't need to worry about that hahah!
*My favorite experience happened last night. We were tracting in a college dormitory and many of the students there are from all over the world! We talked with people from Germany, the Middle East, Paraguay, Lithuania, etc. Anyways, there was one door that we knocked two times with no luck. When the time we scheduled to finish came around, we headed to the elevators. Right when we reached the elevator, Francis nővér suggested we go back and knock that door one final time. So we did! And guess what? This time, a super cute girl answered! She told us that she was so happy to hear about our message and agreed to meeting up next week. We headed back to the elevator and then inspired by my companion, I decided that we could see if anyone in the kitchen was interested as well. We went to the kitchen and started showing a video about service to the guy we saw! 10 seconds into the video he asked, "How can I help? Sign me up!" It was so awesome!
Sok szeretettel,
Sister Kellmer
