"We Are All Enlisted" - April 20, 2020

This week was a whirlwind! Who knew!?

On Thursday, Arps nővér, Gillette nővér and I walked to the branch house for Zone Conference over Zoom. On the way, President Hettinger called and said I would be transferring to Szeged to serve with Tyler nővér! The oldest missionaries are being sent home, which stirred up most companionship in the mission. The AP's and secretaries spent the weekend driving all over Hungary so the transfer could be accommodated with no public transportation.

Áldott húsvétot kívánunk! (We wish you a blessed Easter) 💐

Quick covid-19 update for Hungary:
The count on Friday was 1310 (relatively low compared to most places to be honest). The government announced Friday that the 2 week quarantine has been extended indefinitely. Missionaries with respiratory health concerns have been sent home, and it's a blessing to be able to leave our apartment to exercise and shop. Our mission president, the Europe Area Presidency, and the church's Missionary Department frequently send out ideas, resources, and guidelines as we learn how to do "online proselyting". We get daily emails from the Europe Area Presidency with training and experiences from other missions. From what we've heard, we will continue missionary work inside for the next 2 or 3 transfers. I'm grateful for technology and that we can continue helping our friends even more frequently than we used to. There's still a lot of unknowns but for now we'll keep doing all we can!

Letter from President and Sister Hettinger - April 14, 2020

Dear Families of the Amazing Spirit-Filled Hungary/Romania Missionaries:

The first four paragraphs are an excerpt from our weekly letter sent to Missionaries yesterday:

President Nelson declared at the April General Conference:  "The increasing darkness that accompanies tribulation makes the light of Jesus Christ shine even brighter.  Just think of the good each of us can do during this time of global upheaval.  Your love of and faith in the Savior may very well be the catalyst for someone to discover the Restoration of the fullness of the gospel of Jesus Christ....We live in the day that our forefathers have awaited with anxious expectation.  We have front-row seats to witness live what the prophet Nephi saw only in vision, that 'the power of the Lamb of God' would 'descend 'upon the covenant people of the Lord, who were scattered upon all the face of the earth; and they were armed with righteousness and with the power of God in great glory.' Happy General Conference weekend!

What a special commemoration of Joseph Smith's First Vision 200 years ago.

My favorite talk was Elder Bednar's about Temples. He said that our heart, "Defines who we are, and determines who we will become." Temple covenants sanctify our hearts. I wish we could go to the temple, but I know that this service is helping others prepare to go to the temple. Hungary will have one soon! My other favorite quote was from Elder Holland: "We did not go this far to only go this far." We are living the dream of our ancestors. Their hopes have come true in our day, and we benefit every day from their hopes, sacrifice and work. What an incredible blessing. I hope I never take it for granted. And there is so much to come! And Elder Gong's talk about Hossanah and Hallelujah. And Sister Cordon's talk about conscientiously shining our light. And Sister Jones talk about being women in the Latter-day! And the new proclamation from President Nelson! I'm so excited to use it as we teach people about the Restoration.
