"We Are All Enlisted" - April 20, 2020

This week was a whirlwind! Who knew!?

On Thursday, Arps nővér, Gillette nővér and I walked to the branch house for Zone Conference over Zoom. On the way, President Hettinger called and said I would be transferring to Szeged to serve with Tyler nővér! The oldest missionaries are being sent home, which stirred up most companionship in the mission. The AP's and secretaries spent the weekend driving all over Hungary so the transfer could be accommodated with no public transportation.

As we walked to the branch house on Thursday, I felt like Rip Van Winkle. When we started quarantine a month ago it was winter, but now everything is green and alive! I didn't know Hungary could be so beautiful :) Friday we called to say goodbye to Kispest church members and those we've been teaching. That night we took our last evening walk around our cute neighborhood and saw a sün! hedgehog :)

Saturday morning the AP's drove me to Szeged. It's weird to be leaving Budapest after serving there my whole mission until now. Szeged is in the southern part of Hungary, directly across the border from Serbia. There's another companionship of sisters here and a senior couple, the Knowlton from Layton, UT.

The first two days in Szeged (pronounced seged) have been an adjustment and busy! In the branch Sunday call, a returned missionary from the Alpine German-Speaking Mission gave her homecoming talk, which is where my grandparents served! They also had a separate English meeting because there are a few universities in Szeged. Most of our investigators are Chinese, including Bonnie from Shanghai who just got baptized on Saturday!

Tyler nővér is from Eagle Mountain, Utah and came to Hungary the transfer before me. I'm excited to get to know these people, work with Tyler nővér, and continue online procelyting with a new window view. :)

So much has changed since last Monday! I already love Szeged and am excited to see what the next week holds. "We Are All Enlisted" has become a theme song of sorts. We often hum "We are all Enlisted till the conflict is o'er, happy are we, happy are we!" We are not sure when this conflict will 'be o're' but I'm humbled and grateful for the opportunity to still be enlisted. President Hettinger said our mission has never had more baptismal dates. The Lord is working wonders!

Love,
